CLP Competency Areas
Students prepare for college... and for life.
The College Living Prep program is based on competency in seven major areas. Regardless of previous coursework, students are required to demonstrate growth in each of these areas:
- Essential Skills (reading skills, writing skills and mathematics)
With individualized learning paths and support, students can demonstrate proficiency in these areas that are essential to further study and post-secondary opportunities.
- Science
CLP students learn how sciences relate to everyday life-including
earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and physical science.
- Social Studies/Citizenship
Becoming independent, responsible, productive citizens requires learning about governments and laws. This area also teaches U.S. and world history, geography and other concepts.
- Life Management
Students learn concepts related to personal finances and consumer education so they can make effective decisions as adults regarding finances and how outside economic factors can have an impact on those decisions.
- Health and Recreation
Learning about nutrition, basic first aid and other physical fitness concepts help students learn to lead healthier and active lifestyles.
- Aesthetics
Gaining an appreciation for music, theater and the arts is important to becoming well-rounded adults.
- College/Career Preparation
Life after high school can be challenging unless the student is armed with life skills for college or post-secondary training and work. Students also learn about various careers to make effective decisions about available education and employment paths.
